With SCS’s Five9sAdBoss™, databases and files are automatically kept up to date on both a hot standby server at the primary production site and optional servers at a disaster recovery site. The hot standby server is ready to take over on a moment’s notice. If the main site is compromised, operations can quickly resume with remote access to the disaster recovery site.

Mirroring data is complex in a production environment where building an ad takes from minutes to hours and transaction activity happens in fractions of a second. Handling Computer Aided Design (CAD), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and full-text Information Retrieval (IR) all at the same time makes good third-party high-availability solutions all the more elusive. SCS felt there were no canned solutions for such data management that would meet the customer’s needs.

Five9sAdBoss runs on unmodified, high-performance commodity hardware and operating system software. It is compatible with SCS applications and those of many others as well. For the entire network solution, SCS’s Five9sAdBoss software monitors the health of the servers (especially their many disk drives) and presents the statuses in a quick and easy-to-use browser-based display. You can see the status of the servers at each site and drill all the way down to the error logging for each hard disk drive. Critical events are logged and e-mail notices are sent whenever appropriate. Complex Unix commands, ordinarily the norm for daily server health checks, are elegantly avoided. System managers can assess the system’s status in minutes.

In the event of a server failure (or imminent failure), a decision can be made to move operations to a different server. Safeguards ensure that all personnel have access to that server, and that it is healthy enough to take over the primary’s role.
