One of the fundamental concepts of REST is statelessness. Stateful applications have a context that is remembered between interactions. Stateless environments must pass context around and reestablish them between interactions. REST may be fine, even preferred, for high volume services with simple contexts, but for complex applications supporting a relatively small number of concurrent users, following REST’s rule of statelessness is counter productive.
