THE HISTORY OF SCS...
1975
SCS is founded by Martha Cichelli, but did not start off writing software for newspapers. Instead, SCS provided custom programming and data analysis for a variety of customers, including a custom desktop scheduler and calendar for a “forward thinking” executive at American Express.
1982
SCS is hired to provide consulting services for The Pottsville Republican-Herald -- its first official newspaper contract.
1983
Martha's husband, Richard, joins her at SCS and purchases the rights to Layout-80 from the ANPA. Shortly thereafter, SCS introduces Layout-8000, the first electronic, automated ad dummying system, with The Lancaster Intelligencer becoming its first customer.

SCS moves from the Cichelli's basement into offices on the campus of Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA.
1984
SCS receives a grant from the Ben Franklin Technology Center to fund start-up work on SCS/Track.
1985
SCS builds the first editorial and classified systems for a metro-sized newspaper on nonproprietary hardware and operating system software, installed at The Washington Times.

MOVES INTO THE FOUR-ROOM SCHOOL HOUSE IN NAZARETH PA.
1987
SCS becomes the first reseller of Dell servers and the first developer of QuarkXTensions®.
1988
SCS delivers the first newspaper systems on the Unix/Intel platform.
1989
SCS becomes the first company to fully electronically paginate and eliminate the composing room in a daily North American newspaper, installed at Le Droit.
1994
SCS becomes the first company to build classified, retail, finance, newsroom, pagination and circulation systems with integrated databases and single workstation access, installed at the Albany Herald.
1996
SCS is the first company to paginate large classified sections with minimal manual intervention, high speed and near optimal density.
